For what comfort it's worth, western studios are lagging behind the Japanese (and even the Chinese) as they focus more on identity politics and virtue signalling.
The few redditors that find their way into Any Forums are often the ones that get a brief glimpse into how the rest of society really sees them. Their subreddits are designed to be echo chambers, and they only hang out in circles of people who agree with them irl. The rest of normies keep silent about them so as not to lose their jobs by being labeled racist by the HR department for asking "Why does Minecraft need a line about anti-racism?".

It just doesn't hit the same way it used to. Competent sandboxes used to be new and exciting. Now that there's thousands of them Minecraft really isn't anything special gameplay wise. It's just a brand name. The slow-paced shitty-ass updates aren't doing it justice either.
Every single Minecraft playthrough looks like this: rushing the Ender Dragon, building an Enderman XP farm, building Auschwitz for mending books and then creating some gigastructure with the boys which will be forgotten a week later.
It's not nearly as enjoyable to me as group Terraria playthroughs or solo Factorio.
