how the fuck am I supposed to use yt-dl?
I'm computer illiterate

Like pottery.

You should use yt-dlp. It's the same thing, but smarter about how it chooses formats to download.
Basic bitch stuff:
>Open command prompt
>Navigate to folder
>youtube-dlp.exe "[url]"
That's it.

retard

this. also put it in a folder and add that folder to your environment variable path so you can use it anywhere

what do you mean by "[]"?
am I supposed to type that and put the URL in it? how do I use all the options listed on the GitHub

also how do I rip the highest quality video possible? I just tried to download a porn video from a random site and it's 480p instead of 1080p

Ass or tits?

how do I stop it from downloading something?

>am I supposed to type that and put the URL in it?
Yeah, for example you could copy and paste this:
youtube-dlp.exe "youtube.com/watch?v=CRY288HPKpY"
>how do I use all the options listed on the GitHub
It's above your paygrade and mental capacity. Don't worry about it. It's unnecessary.
>also how do I rip the highest quality video possible?
It'll do that by itself. That's why I said use yt-dlp. It's smarter than you.
I think you can push Q while it's running and it'll abort. Not 100% on that though.

ctrl+c
you don't type the [], but you do type the "", and put the url in between the ""
it should automatically select the highest quality, but if it doesn't add "-f best" to the command. (without quotes this time)

also

Obviously not the

leave that out.

I finally got ytdlp to work with a gui, I tried it 2 weeks later to download something and it didn't work anymore. Why can't anyone make an actual program with an actual gui that actually works? All these yt downloaders are janky as fuck despite youtube existing for like 15 years now

Because youtube keeps changing shit specifically so that downloaders don't work.

How do I get videos to download as mp3s instead of m4a's? I use "folder\youtube-dl.exe -i --extract-audio --audio-format mp3 --audio-quality 0 YT_URL" but it still downloads as a m4a.

OP is legitimately one of those zoomers that can't comprehend the concept of storing files in "folders".

because people who aren't retarded and inbred can figure out how to use yt-dlp normally

read the documentation

-x, --extract-audio Convert video files to audio-only files
(requires ffmpeg/avconv and
ffprobe/avprobe)

I tried downloading a video from some porn site and it only gave me 480p when the highest quality is 1080p
that's why I was asking
I tried it without quotes and it still worked

download a fetching program instead

>I tried it without quotes and it still worked
without quotes works fine, but with quotes is more reliable as some characters in the url might mess up the command.

Take showers or have sex, it's not normal behavior to download videos or porn and shit like OCD-ridden fags that like to hoard gb of tripe

>take showers
user he can't figure out how to use one of the most basic computer programs that exist just because it doesn't have shiny buttons. he will somehow manage to drown himself, please be careful of what you tell him to do.

how do I know when I should use quotes for specific stuff to type and when I shouldn't
the examples listed on the GitHub have commands in quotes but not for all of it
