There are some inherent problems with the sub genre, one thing that bothers me in many JRPGs is how the games are always funneled towards combat, and it often isn't good/engaging enough to keep me hooked. I wish they would put more non-combat gameplay in them, put some murder mystery quest, more things to do than walk around fighting shit for hours to no end.The issue with making the games all about combat when it comes to gameplay is that you relaly have to make it very good to justify this approach, and they rarely if ever do that. The gameplay loop just boils down to walk->fight->walk->fight->walk->fight->walk->fight->walk->fight->walk->fight->
in how many of those games you can beat the usual fight by spamming confirm button on attack for everything ie. you can beat trash fights blindfolded? That's a problem, this shit is boring

that's not a bad thing, JRPGs are typically abashedly traditional, and that's the experience fans want
when I see JRPGs series try to reinvent themselves and evolve we get stuff like FFXV and I'm like yeah I'd play DQXI over that garbage any day, tonight you'll be safe
