It's not a walking sim.
Dear Esther is a walking sim (you literally only walk).
Gone Home is a walking sim (you walk and can pick up items to read their descriptions, and put them back).
Stray is more like an adventure game, with puzzles, stealth sections, combat, and minor collectathon aspects.

It's a decent game, but imagine how much better it could've been with actual platforming and combat elements, as well as several hours longer with more side quests to boot.
Basically it had the potential to be a truly fantastic game, but was meddled down by lazy gameplay design.
