Finaly got my Deck confirmation mail but i'm a bit shaky about pulling the trigger since i've seen hype down down signifcantly.
What about you guys that already have it? Is it worth getting? Have you been using it constantly?

constantly no, but i had a long delay at the airport last week. between steam deck and switch i was entertained the entire day. also GTA SA runs very well
Just get it. worst case is you can sell it and make a profit. I got my 64GB one and after using it for a couple months I sold it off for 700.
i decided to pass because i never get up from my computer chair
It's alright, but truth is you quickly hit the wall and realize how underpowered it is. It really can't run any recent games at reasonable frame rates unless in PSX graphics.
Get it if you are black or another minority. If you are white let it lapse so someone else can get it.
Got my email today. Immediately pulled the trigger. I fucking love handhelds and can't wait to mess around with this
easy answer
do you like handhelds? get it
don't like handhelds? don't get it
Nope it's totally not worth buying, the hype is fake, I definitely haven't stopped using my PC for anything but pcvr games since my deck came, don't get it.
It's horrible.
buy it you stupid go- valued customer....
should I buy it if I don't have a PC at all?
I'm worried about Linux compatibility and it not being able to do what I want it to do
do you people really have a hard time affording stuff like this? You actually look at the price tag? wtf. Just buy it, it's not even a grand.
seriously wtf
It's a nice PC gaming supplement for me, a Mac fag. But truth be told, it's really... not very powerful at all. I can run most games much better in Parallels on M1 than Deck runs them, and the battery life is like 5 times better in the laptop. The comfort though, it's great, if Valve got one thing right is the comfort, Deck is comfortable as fuck.
Yeah, my feeling is that if it's something that doesn't truly benefit from higher pixel counts like emulated games before the HD era or modern indie pixelshit, it's a great but overpriced piece of kit. You can get the same relevant performance out of chink handhelds like the Odin (probably, I don't have one).
It'll *work* for modern games. Will it work well? Will you feel like you're not missing out on something? If you're one of the turbo autists on YouTube who don't care about running games at 480p FSR 70% resolution scaled blurry ass shit, maybe.
How are crpgs on it?
Was thinking I might finally be able to get through Pillars of Eternity and Disco Elysium if I could play them handheld.
Its probably a good thing not to buy shit you dont need. I use to do that about a decade ago and my house was a fucking cluttered mess.
1) a LOT of stuff has native linux alternatives
2) proton runs pretty much 90% of what you throw at it, and
3) you can both dualboot windows or even just install a virtual machine to run everything
that said, even though i LOVE my steam deck to death, i would still give a proper desktop pc priority. the deck is the best handheld ever imho and basically the dream side device, but isn't quite the all in one solution it could have been.. yet.
I like mine a lot.
I got Retroarch set up with my custom RGUI setup, and the dolphin core finally sucks less, so I can use it for gaemcube shit too.
Been playing a shitload of pacman and Baldur's gate on it.
i have 65 switch games on mine
feels good, can literally throw my switch in the trash now
really great if you want a portable PC (especially with the 40fps mode, you don't have to deal with a bloodborne-tier 30 if you want the games to look nice), especially with all the support valve is giving it.
only caveat is that there are a FEW windows games that don't work right now (though dualbooting with windows is coming, so you don't have to pick) and linux may be a little bit weird internally (KDE looks like windows, but is not on the inside) if you're not used to unix-like OSes.
I saw some kid playing on one the Metro, so I took it out of hands a broke it.
Maybe it was the shock of having some randim stranger break his mobile gaming device out of nowhere and for no reason, or maybe he just had weak blood running through his sytem, but I have never seen a 20-year old be both sad and scared at the same time.
If I see him on the tram with another one, I would 100% do it again.
And then everyone clapped right Quentin?
It depends, do you like handheld gaming?
For me it's vital, not because I play outside, I like playing on my bed, there are some games I can't play sitting on my desk, like 2D games, platformers and stuff like that, it just feels wrong, PC gaming is more for complicated games with lots of keybinds, like modded bethesda games, FPSs, RTS, stuff like that.
So because I always use different handhelds, I got the deck and now I don't have to use my hacked switch or phone, I just play everything on deck. It's also nice to have a second PC I can carry with me to my other apartment.
If that doesn't sound appealing then don't get it.
>30fps
Come on
Is switch emulation really better than the switch?
"Runs at full speed then shits the bed randomly in sections" wouldn't warrant me throwing my switch.
Remember when fanboys claimed that it would play Switch games at 60fps?
it runs SMT5 & BOTW at 40 fps, higher than switches native
>Is switch emulation really better than the switch?
Depends on the game and which emulator you're using.
The unfortunate part about the deck is its reliance on AMD hardware, which has some notable issues with visual bugs when it comes to emulation in general but especially switch emulation
If you can overlook it, it's fine for games that are deemed playable on both ryujinx and yuzu's compat lists
Check those out before making any irrational decisions, ignore shills saying ZOMG BETTER THAN SWITCH IM CREAMING MYSELF OVER IT
