How good is it?
I only played the Yakuza 0, really liked it but I dont feel like playing 7 other games about Kiryu.
Also I like jrpgs so the turn based party combat seems more appealing to me.
The story is standalone right?

Its a lot of fun, and the story is standalone. You'll miss a small handful of callbacks and cameos, but otherwise you should be fine. Has one of my favorite JRPG parties, every character is entertaining.

the best Yakuza game.
thank god they're done with mindless ooga booga action shit

it's great. the job system could be fleshed out better, the combat isn't bad but i honestly think it could be done better. but the game kicks ass it's so fun

I like it a lot. I get why people arent happy with it since its such a bizzare change in formula and genre, elsewise i think everything works well.

>the job system could be fleshed out better
seriously. Just making it easier to flesh out the jobs early on would be a godsend

i don't mind that the jobs are locked behind the first 10 hours or so, it gives you an intimate relationship with the starting class. i just wish there was more incentive to switch to the other jobs like host or whatever. but i do really like the job system for what it already is, i just think y8 has much higher expectations for how good it can be

Story has a few callbacks to the older games but nothing too major. The game is overall pretty good and was one of my favorites of 2020. That being said I think they're trying to have too many story "twists" in the second half of the game along with some difficulty spikes. The new protag is overall more enjoyable than kiryu in my opinion. They've given him more depth in one game than kiryu got in seven.

i really don't understand the difficulty spike meme. if you clear the battle arena once or twice you should be a high enough level to beat the duo fight later. that's like 45 minutes

You're right. I didnt mind it either but I saw alot of complaints about it when the game released so I thought I should mention it at least

0 and 7 had the best story in the series imo, the only two that actually got me truly invested and emotional . And they're both pretty much standalone.

Just don't buy any DLC, they're overpriced cashgrabs.

i want to play it as well but having to play all other yakuza games after 0 seems like such a chore

It's good, but the beats are missed from time to time storywise
>supposed to be poor at one point in the game, but you're making bank defeating enemies and finding plates

gameplay literally put me to sleep
cutscense are insanely long
story is ok
characters are fine
minigames range from meh to ok
if you dont value a 100 hours of your life then you can spend it on it
but i cant recommend it

There's a reason they dropped the 7 in the west. Go ahead and play it, I played it after Yakuza 2 and loved it all the same.

It's like, the main story is very much standalone, all the main characters are new. There are some references to people and events from previous games, but the things that are actually important to the plot are explained well enough, and there aren't too many of them.

>a Hideo Kojima game

>tfw played mahjong for the first 12 hours of the game and was already filthy rich before I unlocked the business minigame

>tfw no idea how to play mahjong
I really tried. All I understood is that it's pretty much gin rummy on steroids.

I didn't like the JRPG combat, not because it was JRPG combat, but because it was shallow/janky as hell. The same was true as a brawler, but it just stood out more as a JRPG imo.
The story is stand alone, with some appearances by recurring characters and mentions of 6's plot points. Nothing major.

just started kiwami 2, can i get the tiger drop in this game? if so what is the earliest i can get it?

>he needs TD
Yeah, it's in the game.
No, I've never used it in ANY of the games so far.

It’s ok at best.
Let down by the combat which is way more barebones and braindead than ever, while being unbalanced and janky as fuck. It just makes the game a slog to get through since it’s longer while offering less depth than the simple brawler combat. It’s honestly the same as spamming heat actions except that’s all you do now.
If you’re interested, you should pirate it, cause it’s not worth full price.

The Tiger Drop is based though. You're missing out, my man. It's not like it's some cheap move that can be executed at will, you need to time the enemy's movement.
