Regular water trainers in the surfing part of the game aren't strong, and it makes more sense to have a starter pokemon geared more for the beginning of the game than late game because you don't have many options early game but by late game you'll have more than enough chances to catch a pokemon that can deal with water types or whatever a starter's weakness is. Blaziken falls off to the 7th and eight gyms and the champion but he's still useful for the first and third elite four members (due to fighting type).

And it doesn't even matter because Blaziken gets physical moves that avoid water. And most of the late game areas are just tentacruels and luvidsks that die in 1 hit. If you really want, you can go catch an electric type. But Blaziken can still beat them. And 3/4 of the Elite Four.
Then they gimped him in Gen 4 to make the monkey useful.

I fucking hate myself. At least I have 3 authentic copies of Emerald and I'm not even sure why. I remember picking up a 2nd one many years ago for a sibling to play it, but I'm not sure where the 3rd came from.

This but unironically. Trying to play Pearl, Platinum and Black were so painful, I just gave up on the series. Fire Red and Emerald were the best games in the whole series. Been playing since Gen 1.

I thought fourth gen was alright but I stopped playing during fifth gen for some reason. Wasn't a fan of the Pokemon designs that gen but not sure why.
