The Bardok special was never canon. And Super didn't do that. That was the Patrolman Jaco manga and Toriyama made it.

The Bardock retcon IS canon.
The original special was never canon, neither was there any established canon for Bardock to contest that, so there was no issue.

The point is that it's not a retcon because the Bardok special from the 90's was never canon. But either way, that portrayal of those events didn't start with super. It was first in Patrolman Jaco years before the modern Broly movie came out. That's been the canon Bardok story since like 2013.
