Monster Hunter Stories 2

Anyone wanna give me their unfiltered review?

I played the demo and I liked it other than certain weapon types missing. Friend says there’s co-op but I have a feeling it’s limited,
Anyone have thoughts?

i liked it a lot. It really did feel like pokemon, but with a monster hunter paint, in a good way. I think the story and progression is pretty safe and repetitive, but elsewise no other complaints here

How extensive is the comop? Is it like DQ Heroes 2 where your friends can just join for a boss fight for example, if you understand that reference

Or is there a lot of co-op

Co-op is unfortunately or fortunately depending on how you see it, something mostly reserved for the end-game. The extent of it is joining together for a boss or going through a map together fighting things.

>It's a monster collecting game where you already know all the monsters.
>The story fights are fun, but fighting anything between is tedious.
>Combat is so focused on the RPS mechanic that there is rarely any reason to go for moves outside of what's going to trump your opponents move. More-so you just want to get team attacks because you take no damage from team attacks.
>Getting eggs for new monsters becomes a chore, but there is probably some fun in the fusion system where you can roid out a Monster.
>Story is kind of boring, definitely just a game aimed at kids.
>Wish maps were made for flying more.
>Presentation is good for the most part, surprised at cutscene quality in some instances that mog other monster collection games.
>Some monsters cannot be tamed for whatever reason.
>Weapons and gear feel pretty bland after awhile due to the battle system. Just have an assortment of slash/blunt/pierce to beat monster weakness.

Overall, it's not a bad game, but it's nothing special. A solid 6-7/10

It’s Pokémon if Gamefreak actually put effort

Unfortunately it has one big comparison to Pokemon that it, and sadly most monster capture/taming games, falls short on. In that you have to find or farm random "Eggs" that only appear in certain circumstances, rather than just capturing the monster you're battling.

It's such a simple concept I'm still baffled so many games fall short on it and I just don't understand why. You see a monster in the wild, you think "Oh shit I want that thing", and in Pokemon you just get that thing, it's yours. It's not just given to you, it's still a challenge because you have to weaken it and so on, but the basic idea is you tempt kids with a cool thing right in front of their face and give them the chance to just get that thing right there. Instant gratification. None of that Digimon "Oh you have to beat the monster ten times JK beat it 20 times to get the "Data" and then you can eventually make one, meaning you have to fight the same monster over and over and over until all that "Oh shit I want that" feeling is long gone and you're so bored of seeing this fucking thing you don't care anymore", just toss a magical thingamajig and get that cool monster. Monster Hunter 2 is a step in the right direction in that you can go into nests and just wiki the right egg and eventually you'll get it, but it's still bafflingly obtuse when it would be just more satisfying to see thing, catch thing, enjoy thing. Boss monsters included, stop it with this "Oh no this monster is too special for you, plebian!" If it's in the game give it SOME means of being obtained.

I'm so sick of pokemon why does nobody else get it right

they need to ditch navirou

Which is the better game, Monster Hunter Stories 2 or Pokemon Arceus?

sexy cat
game is alright

Arceus does the Monster Capture and Raise thing much, much, muuuuuch better.
They're about equal on the actual combat, it's mostly down to just rock paper scissors. Pokemon gets a slight advantage for having non-battle area combat.
Monster Hunter is MUCH better as far as traversing areas, Pokemon may be slightly bigger but the flight controls and switching are smoother in MH.
MH doesn't look like ass.

So if you're in it for catching cool mons, Arceus. If you're in it for exploration, MH. If you're in it for variety, Arcus. If you care about graphics, MH. The story's pretty dumb in both cases and will have you wishing you could do anything besides stare as your character forgets all the shit they have, there's really no good choice there. Be it wondering why your guy forgot he can throw out the pokemon when life or death shit happens or wondering why your guy forgot the giant fuckoff weapon he was carrying as basic ass guards hold you back, it's mindless.

Good game but they bought back THAT FUCKING CAT! Also there was supposed to be an expansion but is MiA.

Holy shit, there was!

>I'm so sick of pokemon why does nobody else get it right
play SMT

Kill the trash cat mod when?

The new Shin Megami Tensei?

I'm seriously asking if that shit lets me catch boss monsters I will get download it in a fucking heartbeat I just wanna catch those fuckers in ONE GAME

its really fun cute and pokemon, i liked it a lot!
that being said the combat is kinda shit and repetitive, and the jews at capcom removed cool features like breeding monsties with a different element and color, ie a purple mizusune who does dragon attack is impossible :

They screwed over Gammoth for no fucking reason and it ruined the game for me.

Everything about this game is amazing, except the combat which is very meh (fun meh, but still meh) and how often the animations clip.
9/10. Too many Rathalos.

>too many Rathalos
It wouldn't be Monster Hunter without it.

>MH
>without rathalos wanking
cmon now. thats like asking for a pokemon game without a hint of gen 1 faggotry

>tedious rando fights
Nigga, just press the win button.

You negotiate with random demons to convince them to join you
You can also fuse demons together to create stronger, different, demons.

You're not meant to get attached to your demons, they level up way slower so the fastest way to power up your team is to keep recruiting and fusing (That is, save for some key demons here and there. Some have really strong unique attacks/spells and become worth setting up or grinding)
>Boss monsters
They're usually Special Fusions, where you have to have 2-3 specific demons to fuse them

NTA but SMT doesn't work as a pokemon replacement because pokemon and monsters have something in common: both can be seen as pets. The demons are too varied and just doesn't work for thay.

>Rathalos
>Azure Rathalos
>Silver Rathalos
>Dreadking Rathalos
>Ratha
>Ratha
>Rathian
>Pink Rathian
>Gold Rathian
>Dreadqueen Rathian
That's too many Raths no matter how you look at it.
