how the fuck do I get this to run on modern hardware? I downloaded the GOG version and it doesn't work

Does it have patches preinstalled? Might have to install them manually
GOG Chronicles of Myrtana runs flawlessly on my Linux via Wine

I started playing the steam version the other day and it seems to work fine, it probably comes with patches preinstalled. There's no fixing the shitty controls tho.

There is a comprehensive gamepad controls mod though

There's a whole bunch of shit you gotta install. Look up the guide on steam (it applies to GOG version too).

At least in Gothic 1 you have some options but in gothic 2 a random guy with a branch can kill you easily
I hate the system that forces you to rely on crits to do any damage

but you get crits like 50% of the time unless you put zero points into one-handed/two-handed

gothic 2 assumes that you understand it's a German genocide simulator where you systematically exterminate every lifeform on the map squeezing out every last drop of exp

at the start of the game i only had 10% so of course I had trouble killing anything
which suck because my preferred method of leveling is total wildlife extinction

Also I'm like lvl 30 and have 100 str should I pump up my two handed skill or stick to one handed weapons and increase my strength?
I'm at ch 3? and just got my dragon hunter armor so I'm currently genociding orcs in the valley of mines

I've never touched two-handed, but the moveset for one handed is so damn good
master one handed in G1 rapes everything with it's speed, they kinda nerfed it in 2 but it's still OP

but yeah, Pyrannha Bytes are awesome at these games, I think Risen and Elex would fit the bill.

Same people that got filtered by Risen/Gothic clunkiness told you that. Tbf I dont finish those kind of games so Idk if it got too repetitive/uninspired by the end, but otherwise it's just as good or better (the jetpack makes the exploration way more fun, and you unlock its power to explore moar)

In Elex i didn't kill a single person until like level 15, you're just that weak.
