This is the only significant experience I get from VR. I like to think I'm good about knowing my direction I'm facing irl but after playing tea for God I'll think "I must be facing the fireplace" to find in facing the exact opposite direction which is kind of mesmerizing

Standing VR with waggle controls is not the future. Way too many issues, movement, touch, footing, wires going everywhere, etc.
Cockpit-style VR with dedicated controls, however, is the future. Racing games with a physical racing wheel, flight sims with a physical flight stick, they not just work perfectly and did since the original Rift, they also massively enchance those kinds of games.
