In fact, the original FF7 is arguably their biggest case of this. You had commercials airing during prime time showcasing all the pre-rendered shit with Midgar and the plate drop and teases of the Nibelheim flashback and shit, and unless you picked up a fucking gaming magazine, you had NO IDEA the characters looked like weird lego block people for most of the game. It was one of the most aggressively, and falsely, marketed titles of its day, and since it sold absolute gangbusters, the industry has never been the same since.
