Unfortunately it sacrifices everything for combat. Level design and Disney worlds are shallow and boring. If you can appreciate the combat/music/when the story actually matters, it's really enjoyable. I don't blame you for not liking it though. The structure of KH1 is so good.

KH2 is a step down in every regard to KH1 except for combat. Gameplay across the board in KH2 is so overwhelming better that it makes going back to KH1 pretty hard for me. It's so fluid and responsive, with the absolutely perfect moveset and spells for Sora. And critical mode is the perfect difficulty for a game like KH2, where if you play well you can dominate fights quickly and without taking any damage, but if you fuck up you get punished hard.
It's such a shame KH peaked at KH2FM, I wish the original team could have just kept making games and refining their formula. The later games just don't compare, and KH1 is so basic in comparison.

KH2 made me realize how much I didn't actually enjoy any of the platforming in 1 and cave of remembrance shits all over all of it anyway. My only real problems with 2 are the drive grinding and I guess the overall connecting story is weaker in some ways

Why did they even choose this for a design? Nomura says its not permanent (supposedly) yet it was a finalized, promoted design for the game's debut trailer. It looks so fucking sterile and wrong.

I like it in the vein of "modern Tokyo Sora" and if that's all it is, that'll be perfectly fine. Considering, if I had to guess from Edgy Darkside showing up, that Tokyo is the tutorial world it'll be fine for that purpose.

Twilight town is kino. The world that never was is kino. the scenes added to final mix are shit. the gameplay is perfect. the story is a great light hearted adventure mixed with heart in the right places. best opening and ending of any game.
