>can be upgraded at any time, basically a timeless machine as long as you upgrade it every few years
>keyboard + mouse makes some games much more enjoyable but you can also use a controller

Nah. If you're a 100% budget gamer in current year, yeah a PC isn't the option you wanna go with. What you want is an Xbox Series S and Game Pass. But, if you're willing to invest some bucks into your passtime of choice, yeah a PC is probably the best place to do it. Once you buy the thing, you can upgrade it whenever you want, and it has the best backwards-compatibility and emulation capabilities.
Also nearly every indie game (the only games worth playing nowadays) all release on PC anyway, whereas you get delayed and updated-second versions on consoles.

90% of all games ever made can run on an average computer entirely for free, the games you'd need an expensive computer to run are about 10%, and from this 10%, at least 80% are not worth it.
you can have an average pc and have games to play for all your life without ever having to upgrade.
