This game completely disproves the "HIRE THIS MAN" meme. Sega hired a fan and he literally made a sonic game that's better than anything Sonic Team has shat out in 20 years or so, perhaps even better than the original megadrive games themselves. Imagine if Nintendo took the same approach with a classic Metroid game.

Mania is good DESPITE SEGA, not because of it.
If anything, Mania proves that companies need to just stay out of the way of the fans.

the hire this man meme is about a fan project putting characters in the unreal engine to make it look super realistic and shiny, a thing that sega is doing officially now

Yeah but he fucked up 3 & Knuckles and tried blaming Sega for it

To be fair, he probably should have just made his own game. Now he is under Sega's thumb and can't do that without sparking controversy and legal troubles.

And then Sega got completely butthurt about a bunch of firthyu gaijinu outshining groriousu Nihon Sonikku Teamu.

The only value mania has is given to it by the original trilogy. It's a bad product and it's kinda depressing that it exists.

>Imagine if Nintendo took the same approach with a classic Metroid game.
Dread is made by Spaniards, it's already as close as Nintendo will get to that.

it still blows my mind that they not only made a good sonic soundtrack, they made THE BEST. how the fuck do the japs cope?

Sonic Mania had SOVL though. Dread was lifeless and devoid of atmosphere. Should have kept the pixel art style imo

That meme is about the people who just put a model of Mario or Sonic in some premade Unreal engine map, not for those who are actually skilled. Basically Frontiers.
>Imagine if Nintendo took the same approach with a classic Metroid game.
Maybe but unlike Sega Nintendo don't actually have to rely on fans to do their jobs for them. I guess Dread was made by a third party but they're very selective with those.

Headcannon wasn't the sole Mania dev, and Origins didn't have Whitehead on deck

Nintendo could literally just hire the AM2R guy. That game is practically considered official by the fandom anyway

Mania is boring. Technically solid, but very dull and uneventful.

It's just a rehash of 30 year old games. Totally overrated. At least Sonic Team tries to do something new.

maybe you just grew up

Frontiers is the "HIRE THIS MAN" meme but without having any man hired, lmao

bad post

He unironically tried but the kickstarter failed because Sonic fans only care about Sonic

Too late, he got picked up by Microsoft and now is a part of Moon Studios making Ori.

Like I said, Nintendo is very selective with who they hire since you basically have to already have the exact same corporate philosophy they have. Also Sega has the upside where they welcome fangames while Nintendo are hateful towards it. Probably think that it's their property therefore only they should be allowed to use it. The AM2R guy more likely got put on a permanent blacklist within Nintendo for "messing with the integrity" of their property. That one prolific SM64 modder is probably Nintendo's most hated developer.

>To be fair, he probably should have just made his own game
He made a kickstarter after Mania for his own game project that didn't go anywhere

>Nintendo could literally just hire the AM2R guy
The AM2R would have to form his own studio, arrange a meeting, and get his pitch approved by Nintendo just like the Mania team did with SEGA.

>

Yeah.
If games like freedom planet or many other barely known sonic-likes had an official sonic skin instead they would be highly praised like mania.

Mania is so good it makes going back to the classics dull.

Remember how butthurt people were that Mania's ending tied into Forces?

Yeah, by making yet another boost game featuring Green Hill with open world elements that were already worn out by 2015.

It's true.
Specially how crap the levels are and how out of character sonic is.
