>"play the original avoid the sequel"
>"original is skippable just play the sequel"
What gives? Are these games worth a playthrough or not?
THIEF
Play Thief Gold and the Metal Age.
Play both.
They're great games.
Play Thief Gold on normal difficulty at first. Otherwise you'll be pulling out your hair because of the loot goals. Play Thief 2 on expert difficulty right off the bat.
Any Forums told me the same thing about system shock but I vastly preferred the original to the sequel
>avoid the sequel
I've been in many thief threads and never heard that one, unless that user meant the third one.
Sometimes you just have to try a game for yourself to see if you like it
Thief 2 is more refined, but Thief 1 is far more fresh and interesting.
Just ignore all other posters and play Thief 4; it’s the only one worth playing. The other games are just too dated.
Who in the living fuck told you to skip either of the original Thief games? They are both masterpieces and you should play both as they are, personally though I like thief 2 slightly more but both are amazing. Deadly shadows isn't that bad either, that thiaf remake was a joke stay away.
Just play Thief 4. You can't do anything wrong in that game because the devs only added intended solutions to everything instead of mechanics for players to use as they fit. No improvisation, no freedom, no sense of accomplishment. You just go forward until you reach the credits.
based time saver
I honestly liked the tomb raiding levels or sequences more than the levels with actual humans. That being said if the whole game was made up of just those tomb raiding segments I wouldn't have enjoyed it as much. It reached a solid balance for me, give or take. Small critiques here or there.
Years ago everyone would say "play the first 2 and avoid the rest"
But times has changed.
Thief 1-gold got improved with Tfix and the last boom of fan missions expanded hard on the limits of the original games, and T2 had some minor fixes to reach its peak, they are both great on its own terms, one with the "supernatural" and T2 with the house-mansion oriented missions. But after all this years, the comunity also fixed deadly shadows, from FOV camera stuff up to merging the mission maps and usual crashes it had depending on certain hardware.
You dont need to go hardcore supreme ghosting from the start, thats something that takes some serious time to master, even less ironman (no savescumming) ghosting. Its a game you replay multiple times as you get used to the mechanics and remember most of the patrols and situations so you use new strategies to tacle them.
In some sense is like metal gear, you can ghost really hard but also you have a ton of items and weapons to use.
>The sword combat is unironically better than any elder scrolls
You can even do challenges like that
sword your way to "escape"
Both are great and have almost exactly the same gameplay, it's just more of the same stuff but with different themes.
who the fuck said either of these things
go to the archive right now and show the exact posts saying this
Play the entire trilogy and get the whole story of the series then come and rejoice for fan missions!
Don't fucking remind me
Outdated, use T2Fix for Thief 2. Also, GOG versions already come pre-patched with Lite versions so there's no need to install anything.
both are fine
sequel is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better though
They're all pretty boring.
Thief Gold had an amazing plot, but some of the levels were weak.
Thief 2 had some great levels, but the plot wasn't as awesome as Thief Gold's.
They're both good in different ways.
just avoid thi4f since it was shit. and thief 3 (Deadly Shadows) was dumbed down for xbox and people only remember it for one good level.
