Riona is cute but she keeps getting in trouble and kidnapped by the bad guys constantly. I thought it was dumb how you beat Seifer but Riona somehow got caught

I feel like this isn't a common enough opinion and maybe I'm wrong, but...

It's okay? You know? It's decent, it's not great but it's not terrible by any means. I don't know why it's so much more of a love/hate than other FF games that deviate from previous entries. I think FFVII just sort of made it suffer by setting a high bar.

Music is great, Triple Triad is fun, and the Junction System is fun to abuse once you get the hang of it. The rest is just kind of dull.
I like it more now than I did when it was new, but it's probably the weakest FF of the 90s.

FF8 has the same issue RE5 does.
Everyone loved the game before it so much because it was their first.
The next game could never live up to expectations even though they are much better.

Fortunately FF8 is actually starting to get through to people to show how it is better in most areas than 7 is.

Now we just need to show leonfags that chrisfags are right and leon should help with the redfield family name.

It was underrated for the longest time because of the expectations after ff7

one of the weaker FF entries I played.

Main issues:
levelscaling
the only decent character was Squall but only in discs 1 and 2
Ultimecia felt like an asspull
drawing to get spells sucked
romance felt like it came out of nowhere

never played it but it's probably all right

Great music but the plot and characters (outside of the dream sequence protagonists) are ass. Gameplay is easily breakable and you spend half your time watching summon animations.

I loved it desu. Prob my favorite FF. Some of my favorite FF tracks too.

Absolute shit, tried multiple times to get it into it and always end up bored less than 10 hours into the game
