Aus vidya discussion thread

>One of the greatest countries in the world
>Dominate the charts in everything
>...except gaming
Will we ever shake off the yoke of being a sportsball nation and finally make some good vidya? How would you improve the Australian videogame industry?

>finally have PM who isn't a complete tosser
>Foreign affairs minister who is actually competent but won't just bend over for china
>Liberal party in shambles
>Scomo in exile and being denied an NRL executive job
Things are looking good.

Lmao, prices are already starting to soar and its only gonna get worse

You'd have to make it fiscally viable to open a studio here via tax breaks as opposed to grabbing the talent and taking it overseas.

can we have one fucking aus vidya thread that isnt some dogshit politcal schizo rant from retards who dont actually live here and dont know anything about this country

best Fallout game, best Transformers game, and best Starship Troopers game all made in australia.

I'm willing to accept it as long as boomers with 4 investment properties are being hit the hardest.

and none of that is Labors fault

>dominate everything
>sportsball nation
Get fucked mate us kiwis are the world leaders in sports.

We're completely fucked. In large part thanks to how absurdly long they locked down our country. Enjoying paying that shit off for who knows how long.

Lockdown affects mining in remote WA how?
Look at this cunt thinking Australia has a manufacturing industry. HAHAHAHA

Australia can't even produce a native culture that isn't pure poser shit, what makes you think its fit to export anything?

The dogs aren't sexy enough

Because Australia is a landed oligarchy where the Mining, Real Estate and Old Media industries basically have complete control and purposely sabotage everything else to keep Australia super reliant on them. Australia has literally the economic complexity and diversity of Cuba. A blockaded Communist country.
Video Game industry got the ire of the Liberals because Foxtel saw it as a threat to their business empire and purposely put specific taxes and removed all grants or support for the Industry in Australia under George Brandis. The Gaming industry pretty much imploded overnight as it became extremely cost prohibitive to produce Australian video games.
Similar thing happened to Australian film and television as well. Australian TV in the 90s was great, Australian films in the 70s and 80s were great, Foxtel saw this as a threat to their American media and tasked the Government with destroying those industries, which Howard happily did.

>Lmao, prices are already starting to soar and its only gonna get worse
True, but this was caused by external factors and 9 years of incompetence and opportunity loss. We literally had a decade of stagnant wages growth while productivity and corporate profits steadily rised. And now when there are actual fucking need to stimulate wages growth in all sectors, suddenly its a bad idea and that giving line cooks (highest mortality rate for professions during a covid) a 50c pay rise is going to crash the economy. Give me a fucking break.

I don't expect funding for games to be thrown around, but we could sire use some tax offsets and reasons to develop here instead of shipping talent off elsewhere like we do with any artistic sector here.
