Maybe I'm wrong but it was the first time a very big franchise that spawned multiple generations, had an overarching story and was high profile was "ending" (it was supposed to okay).
It was pretty exciting and full of speculation. Like how the wait for Death Stranding was, but more genuine, since everyone involved int he discussion was deeply engaged with MGS's plot after all these years.
