Why did Panel de Pon fail while Puyo Puyo became a huge hit?
Why did Panel de Pon fail while Puyo Puyo became a huge hit?
Because Puyo Puyo had games before it. Madou Monogatari
puyo is the more complex game and had more support too
boys
Panel De Pon is the better game..
Puyo puyo became a huge hit?
Puyo is harder and has more player interaction. Panel's gameplay is more exciting but the multiplayer basically amounts to waiting for the other guy to fuck up. I know you can send hard patterns like repeated x3 chains but it only does so much.
Because unlike SEGA who at least had the decency to FINALLY let the Puyo series have its actual identity starting with Puyo Pop for the GBA, Nintendo and/or IS went full retard and never let the PdP series be known to us gaijins. Literally every single time it was released outside of Japan, it was rebranded, stupidly called Puzzle League, or Tetris Attack despite having nothing to do with Tetris.
And to add insult to injury, when they finally let gaijins know that PdP exists outside of Smash trophies via NSO, they left the game untranslated.
Puyo is more complex and Nintendo kinda shot themselves in the foot by attaching the Tetris name on it for international releases.
It was massive in Japan. You can find videos on YouTube for the many official tournaments when Compile was still handling the series.
It's hard for the series to gain a following when it was turned into Tetris Attack and then various Puzzle League games. They should just sell it as being Panel de Pon which is what people really know it as now and nobody cares that it looks like it's for little girls.
>the soulless DS game
what the fuck give me cute characters
they made a game with 0 charm
Panel de Pon is extremely addictive but to get good at it is more a matter of technique, speed and manual skill than intelligence. In fact, Panel de Pon is almost impossible to play because it is so fast and you can't react in time with the snes controller. Tetris Attack gives you more reaction time and if you play on the keyboard you can do crazy things like chains involving the whole screen without having to plan anything beforehand, just by adjusting the blocks in real time.
>the whole fucking crowd yelling out combo lines
Because Puyo is the better game and is naturally a versus game whereas PDP's most competitive mode is single player time attacks. Tetris Vs. is also a relatively recent development too, if anything you should compare PDP with that.
Even the French love Puyo, it's a mainstay at Stunfest.
I'm glad that SEGA getting into eSports is bearing some fruit. I hope VF6 rewards VF players for their patience.
Poor localization and loss of identity. If they had stuck with the fairytale setting it would’ve still had a following.
Could you imagine an alternate universe where they stuck with the fairy setting, but gave it a "Play It Loud!" Makeover instead? Would it be better or worse?
Its not like they couldn't keep doing what they did before and keep the faeries jp only and continue with yoshi or pokemon for the west. That way both sides of the world would have a charming puzzle game with characters they can enjoy.
is this the original image or the slightly more intelligible version
Just make the tomboy fire fairy the main character in the Western versions.
Just pull a Pocky and Rocky and make the the cover art extreme 90s and don't touch the cute in-game art or dialog. Sure it may piss off the little boys who played it, but they'd have remembered it for years,
Cause they fucking sit on this shit and refuse to make new entries
both look like shit
