Is there a japanese difficulty list for contemporary vidya? Thinking I might try Zelda 64 but I don't if my skills are good enough yet.

Why is Japanese so retarded? Who the fuck thought it was a good idea to make an entire second alphabet for the same sounds? Who thought that it was okay for one character to be pronounceable in 5 different ways? Who thought it would be acceptable for different characters to look near-identical?
If you just listen to the sounds that even the hiragana make, like for example ki, hi, mi, shi, you'll see that the "i" sound is pretty standout and relatable. How the fuck did they see that and not just make a character to represent the "i" sound? Why the FUCK would you instead make a hundred different characters that all have the "i" sound after a consonant? Were they just stupid? Was pattern recognition just so dishonorable that anyone who noticed this had to commit seppuku?
Imagine, just fucking imagine making a language so terribly that you have to make an entirely NEW ALPHABET and then the NEW ONE doesn't even work either! Holy shit, what the fuck were they thinking?

Every language has severe flaws that natives don't even notice because they've been immersed in it their entire lives.

Kanji is pictograms
Hirigana is more strict about pronounciation
Katakana is for Loanwords and sound effects where you (generally) get as literal with the sounds as possible.

It's the same reason japan is so culturally backwards about things like work culture and entrepreneurship. They're trained from a young age to blindly accept tradition and conform to societies expectations. Even actual Japanese people think Kanji is fucking retarded and are only half as literate as English speakers, but they're trained to just not question it.

If the autistic westerner grinding japanese on his time off can learn all the vocab and kanji to be functional, then the japanese person who is native to the language and spends all those school years meticulously checking every kanji will have no problem with them.
They will read and recognize everything with no effort. People are only having difficulty writing them now because of keyboards making handwriting nearly irrelevant.
