Yeah in fact up until they formed a whole genre it was pretty iconically dark souls to have that kind of implementation of poise and shilding so I would say it's a cool way to play them.

On my first DS1 playthrough I went shield and sword until I couldn't beat Ornstein and Smough.
I went half naked while two handing my GS and killed them first try, afterwards finished most of the game half naked like that.
So yeah there is many builds and tactics that make the game easy.
