i've never played it but i've been spoilered up the ass anyways

>is still the best SH
How did they do it?

Mount the ISOs of 2 & 3, and then run their installers like always.
W10's own virtual disc app may not work. If so, try programs like Daemon Tools v4.
Also don't install under "C:\Program Files\" ! This will cause issues.

For SH2, follow the instructions on the Enhanced Edition homepage to the T, and you should be fine.
The "Enhanced .EXE" is also the no-CD crack.

For SH3 & 4, check the Guide or PC Gaming Wiki.
The SH1 is a PS1 rip that you gotta emulate.
I recommend the DuckStation, which is modern and easy to use, but most emulators work OK as well.

>Protips
-Play in the release order.
-Start with Normal difficulty.
-There's TONS of replay value, so replay them all.
-Turn down the ingame Brightness setting, for better gamma & colors!
-Don't try to kill everything that moves, especially outdoors. Leg it, or sneak!
-Turning OFF the flashlight can really help w/ stealth!

>Silent town released installer friday which will do all the modding work for you now
Nice!
Gotta update the SH PC Guide soon then.
Probably clean it up a bit, might even start using a new format.

Could you drop a link?
Never played SH but I was thinking about doing it yesterday.

Homecoming was a steaming pile of shit.

>QTEs and dodging mechanics
>Literal NPCs living in silent hill and its surroundings
>Fucking HUMAN enemies that shoot at you with GUNS
>Token Pyramid Head: "Hey look, It's me PH and this is a Silent Hill game! In one of the endings you actually turn into me! let's ignore the fact that me existing outside of SH2 makes no fucking sense!".

The retards who made it basically didn't bother at all learning about SH lore and what made the other games great. They actually took more inspiration from the first movie than the games.

>Literal NPCs living in silent hill and its surroundings
And haven't people lived in "normal" SH since the first game?

Just finished playing SH1 for the first time. It was pretty good, but not a masterpiece.

SH1 and RE1 to me are the posterchildren of games that have aged poorly. I'm certain that back when they came out they were peak horror, but when replaying them nowadays its just hilariously outdated and not spooky in the slightest. The music and ambience are still good (aided by the weird PS1 texture wiggling and stilted VA work), but otherwise I didn't find it all that great when I played it last Halloween.

People who put it above SH2 or SH3 are either being massive contrarians, blinded by nostalgia or know something that I don't because imo the two SH games after the original absolutely shit on it.

Note that you still need to provide your own game, in which case are handy.
Also obviously playing SH1 first is highly recommended.

>SH1 and RE1 to me are the posterchildren of games that have aged poorly.
I literally played both almost back to back for the very first time last year. They have aged tremendously well, and I was hooked the whole time.

>People who put it above SH2 or SH3 are either being massive contrarians
Nope. Both games just nailed it the first time.
The sequels might have introduced some QOL improvements, but they greatly nerfed everything else, especially world-design, exploration aspects, and replay value.

Believe me kid, I used to have this hardcore SH2 phase in my teenage years, but the more I played the games in general, the more I realized that SH1 > all the rest.

-Largest, most interesting and varied town sections.
-Best pacing out of the whole series; the slow beginning and Apartments in SH2 really grind people's gears.
-Great, varied major locations (School, hospital, sewers...)
-Better enemy and boss variation, all of 'em are fairly dangerous
-Nicely balanced difficulty, both action & puzzles.
-Scary as fuck, full of mindfuck parts as well
-Great visual design, full of small details.
-Awesome soundtrack and audiowork in general.

Same thing applies to Resident Evil.
The good ol' semi-nonlinear "Metroidvania" style world design with alternative routes and endings were killed off instantly after the original. Even the fancy pants REmake streamlined things a ton, making replays less fun and varied.

Nobody lives in the fog world. It's an alternate dimension. Only those who have a reason to be there find themselves within it. In the first three games, it's a handful of characters which are functional to the story, not random people that used to live in Silent Hill. There is no cult living and having a stronghold in the fog world. There are no organized groups of survivors trapped within it and larping as The Walking Dead characters.

In the first three games it is implied multiple times that there might be a "real world Silent Hill" that its inhabited and functioning as a normal city. You never get even a glimpse of it in the games though.
