A ton of these games aren't even remotely close to being "Earthbound-inspired". The developer of OFF explicitly said that he didn't play Earthbound before making his game, for example. A lot of them also aren't "edgy"/about depression, and a lot of them are "literally-who"-tier games (and thus don't justify the existence of a retarded meme about all indie games being "Earthbound-like games about depression")
This meme was born with the release of Omori and it's literally the only game most people think about when they talk about "muh Earthbound-like games about depression".
