Is Tales of Arise worth playing? What are your thoughts on it? Does it stack up to other games in the series like Vesperia?

tales is the most 6/10 series of all time
this will literally never not be true

No. Bland cast and boring story.

Play Berseria instead

It was my first Tales since Graces, which bored me to death. I swore I'll never get to the series again but my PS5 was collecting dust so I did Arise, and as said, it was a perfect 6/10. Not terrible, not great, only entertaining for a while.

Combat is shit. Relies on breaking enemy super armor and building up the instakill. Every encounter is just huge bag of HP with super armor.
The story shits itself multiple times. The game can't decide if it wants to be a darker story of a goofy anime romp.

The skits are fucking terrible.
>Boss gives some exposition before leaving
>Skit pops up
>"So (Boss) said -thing-..."
>"Yeah. He told us all about -thing-."
>"Wow. They're really doing -thing-!"

There's even one that's like
>"A locked gate? What do we do?"
>"Woah do you guys see this switch here?"
>Back to gameplay, throw switch,
>New skit
>"The door opened!"
>"I guess sometimes switches open doors!"

The cast is probably one of the worst in the series and the game shits the bed 2/3 of the way through a la Dark Souls post Anor Londo. That being said the gameplay is actually pretty fun and it's an overall decent experience for what it is.

This, Beseria has a way better story, and a much more interesting cast. Tales of Arise started good, but then quickly becomes boring.

I have a question regarding the series. I'm playing through Berseria atm (my first Tales game), i'm around 50 hours in and i absolutely love it. I decided that i want to give the other games a try, but i'm not sure if i should play them in any specific order. Are the games actually connected in any way, or are they all just self-contained stories?

Zestiria is loosely connected to Berseria but is a worse game. Phantasia and Symphonia are set in the same universe. Aside from that all the other games are self contained unless there's a number title like Destiny or Xillia 2.

Yes
Not a masterpiece but it's a good JRPG if you're not a burned out cynic that only shitposts on Any Forums
plus, the game encourages heterosexual relationship and marriage so it's also based
buy and beat to own the troon discord raiders

All three of the main cast couples are interracial

>Zestiria is loosely connected to Berseria but is a worse game.
About that, how much worse are we talking here? Because i was about to buy that one on steam since it's on sale, and was planning on playing it after Berseria, mostly because of the connection between the 2

I loved it, platinumed it, liked the characters, world and story, gameplay was whatever

Didn't like other tales games, always look a generation behind

The battle system and camera are atrocious. The cast is a direct downgrade too. Play it if you want to see a couple cool connections between the games but it's a slog to get through.

>The cast is probably one of the worst in the series
Dohalim is topping character polls

For me, it was better than Vesperia, although probably not many people would agree.

I see. Guess there's quite a lot of Tales games out there anyway so i can always pick a different title to play. Thanks for the info

That doesn't really mean the party works as a cohesive unit. They're mostly all devoid of personality, have little to no meaningful interaction, and barely exhibit any character growth. Dohalim is a brooding pretty boy so of course he's going to be popular.

I went into it having enjoyed Berseria but never having finished it. I gave up on it about 28 hours in, right after getting the last two party members. The story was overly repetitive (by design, but still), the characters were all fucking annoying, couldn't give a shit about the combat. The graphics were nice I guess, it was refreshing to see a Japanese game that didn't look like an early ps3 era game at best for once.

I liked it for the most part. Last bit of the game felt like an absolute slog though, something that seems to be common in JRPGs in general. The ending was the most satisfying Tales and JRPG in general ending I've seen in a while. I'd never replay it though.

Looking at Tales of Arise now that it's at half price on the steam sale, but how necessary is the DLC stuff? To my understanding, they give some outfits that give skills but how impactful are they really?

Went sharply downhill post Vholran and the combat in hindsight was shit all the way through.

I enjoyed it perfectly fine without any DLC

In the skits he can be naive because his servants do all the work, in some settings (the last one) he comes across as the smart one of the group because as he knows the most about his people and how their society works
