Not if you're only working on something for the fun of it.

That's why you need to shill your game on Any Forums.

Make somthing shocking. If its risky enough maybe the news will give you free advertising when they accuse your game of inspiring shooters

I made a game, and I released it on Steam last year. Up until the beginning of the Summer Sale last week, it had only sold 34 copies. I had never earned enough revenue to get paid (Valve don't pay you until you reach at least $100 in sales).
So far during the Summer sale, it has sold 31 copies (one of which was refunded). That means nearly half of all copies sold came from this sale alone. Despite that, the revenue from this sale accounts for less than 10% of the total revenue. I still haven't made it to $100 yet, meaning I've never earned a cent from the game.

>early access indie game costs more than 10$
>indie game that goes on sale for less than 50% off

>you actually sold copies
Its not much but its somthing

Absolutely. The game cost me zero dollars to make (except for the $100 Steam submission fee), and I knew going into it that I would almost certainly not turn a profit. I'm just glad people played it.

Based.

you need to make a game that's actually unique and interesting and isn't a quirky earthbound clone

Give ideas. I'm all ears.
But it must be something doable by a single person who can code and draw.

Tell me the name of your game

People are coping by saying "just make a good and fun game" like all these people , but Okinawa Rush is one of the best fucking beat'em ups in the genre, yet no one gave a shit when it released.

People just want metroidvanias or the """indies""" that are published by Devolver Digital, you really can't easily make money in this industry even if you slave yourself to game dev 24/7.

Oh yeah "unique and interesting", THAT'S what sells indie games

Attached: 949.jpg (925x740, 489K)

This is what stopped me from making a game. Also i shouldn't have bothered trying to learn unity.

Cuphead is pretty unique, why is it on that list?

Most of those games fit the definition of "unique and interesting", what are you trying to prove with that image?

all you have to do is make a good game. plenty of good games get recognition all the time.

Tell me another game like Rocket League

They don't and you're a faggot.

>make a good game
Someone did yet got no financial success.

that he is the average Any Forums user and doesn't play games

>most zoomers grew up playing Minecraft, Terraria and Undertale
>they're now on Any Forums, posting among us

It's a list of the best selling indie games ever, and no, nothing about Cuphead is "unique and interesting" except for the ridiculously expensive art style which literally no other indie devs could afford to finance. And even if they could it's not a guarantee, Cuphead lucked out because there was a sort of "eerie retro animation" revival around that time in online circles, if you happen to back the wrong art style that turns out to have no meme appeal, you've just sold your house for nothing.

>among us

Sounds like your game isn't good then shill-kun
cope

Obviously luck plays a huge role as well, but a good game is more likely to sell than a bad game

Wow so your """"""""advice"""""""" is basically pointless because no one sets out to make a bad game

factually wrong

Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars

you cheeky fuck

Lol, there are people on Any Forums shilling games daily, but the one time this game didn't is the only time you get called a "shill". I'm just disagreeing with anyone that says "just make a good game and people will play it bro", it reeks of naivety.

Fortunately most indie games are lazy side projects people use to pad their resumes.

No, there are definitely plenty of low-effort borderline scam games

cuckold simulator

>Christmas day
>open gift
>see that
>mom wtf?
>thats what you asked for!
>indian salesmen cackling to himself as he lowers behind his cashregister

>Unique 1930s inspired designs
>Game was so hard that it filtered journalists and every retard
>Parry mechanics in run'n'gun style
Cope. Cuphead is unique because it actually did what every 2D game from the 90s tried to do which was "what if our game looked like an animated motion picture?"

Just make a good game and you'll make millions, ez.

I already do. Now what?

make a retro

>BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMERRRRR SHOOOOOTTERRRRRRRRRRRRR
>BOOM SHOOT SHOOT BOOM I AM REDDIT
and you'll get lots of "RETRO" youtubers watching your boring hallway fest and calling it the next Half Life
