FFXIV is a single-player RPG with MMO elements. You can literally play through the entire story and most of the content without having to interact with the playerbase in any way. I'd highly recommend you adopt that playstyle, the less you have to interact with the FFXIV community the better (see /xivg/ if you need examples of the typical community)
