If you're an artist, you're not supposed to only listen to the suck ups and ignore people who are critical of your work. You analyze any and all feedback, see what is valid criticism and what is just inane flattery or provocation.
Create your work, ship it, and people who like your work, will naturally gravitate towards it. Trying to cater to a specific audience or multiple audiences, letting criticism get under your skin, you'll never make it.
