What jrpg has the best gameplay systems

Best action combat is FF7R and this is not even debatable.
Best turn-based combat is a toss between Persona 5, Shadow Hearts 2 and Grandia 2.

I always play by the books and never try to exploit systems in JRPG, or any rpg for that matter and it feels like I’m not getting the most out of the genre.

Chrono Trigger's kinda cool but I don't think the battle system is really all that special, it's just standard ATB shit

Other ATB games don't do most of the stuff Chrono Trigger does. It may not seem revolutionary looking back at it 25 years later. But it was a big change. But yes, the main appeal of Chrono Trigger is beyond the combat.

Yuna summons actual monsters, which is pretty rad.
