Bellcurve

why is it so abstract looking? monkey island never looked or felt like that

in MI4 they had pegnose pete, now they have dicknose guy.

top is so much better looking

to piss people off. note how many things today are deliberately designed to piss you off.

This feel like an astroturfed "controversy" to be honest. People hated Curse, Escape and Tales for their art direction at the time also. This new one doesn't really look so different from scribblenauts, guacamele, broken age, jenny leclue... It's fine. You just need a "thing of the month" to be outraged about.

Guacamelee did the corporate artstyle thing better

>Is your sword arm affecting your pirating?
>Are your insults not about as effective as a three legged dog on a conveyor belt?
>Hi, I'm Guybrush Threepwood, and I'm here to tell you that we can help with that.
>With Yaarloft, the once daily pirating supplement to make you feel "ship shape."

I can't unsee the penis nose

Soul/soulless/soul

>People hated Curse
Fucking bullshit.

I just don't get why not make one with pixel art giving how popular pixel art is nowdays.

Yep. Curse's change in art direction was hugely controversial. It's famously Ron's own least liked artistic style of any game in the series.

>people hated Curse
lmao fuck off.

I played it in 97 and everyone I knew thought it was amazed at how it looked like a playable cartoon.

Fucking zoomers

Legitimately don't remember anyone complaining about Tales other than how cheap the game felt when actually playing it. It already looked better than Escape. Complaining about Escape was fair, it was a classic case of a game dev switching to 3D to be modern without having the skill to justify the switch.

Did anyone actually complain about Curse? I can only see that happening on some "it's not how I imagine monkey island" level, especially since it was the first game to have a style switch. I think about how you get stuff like Dragon's Lair using "looks like an actual cartoon" as a selling point and imagine it had to have gone over well with most people.

honestly 2022 doesn't look as bad at 2009, 2009 looks like a fan remake.

Cool. I guess Ackley and Tiller both saying they faced massive criticism for the change in artstyle is irrelevant then.

>Did anyone actually complain about Curse?
Yep

>It's famously Ron's own least liked artistic style of any game in the series.
That's hardly damning all things considered now.

Didn't say it was damning. I love Curse's style. But the fact is it was widely criticised, merely for being different to the two games prior. Same thing happened in Escape, and again in Tales. It's ridiculous, but not a surprise, that people are still complaining about a new visual look in a monkey island game.

why are pixels so comfy

nope, I played it in 97 so I'm very much a milennial. it's my favorite game in the series.
it's where MI really came into it's own, both commercially and artistically.

Look how they massacred my boy....
