What Should the Industry Do to Make a Game Appealing to Everybody?

New World went from 900k to 67k in 4 months; it's at 9k right now.

Lost Ark went from 1.3M to 400k in 2 months; it's at 178k.

So, we're at "because of simultaneous characters and a persistent world, MMO is the best genre"; theme parking is surpassed by sandboxing.

>Make a Game Appealing to Everybody?
you don't

vampire survivors
anything else is cope
AAA is dead

>What Should the Industry Do to Make a Game Appealing to Everybody?
that's easy, they shouldn't
everyone agrees on this, appealing to as many people only leaves you with a diluted product that doesn't give what people want

Being the next twitch hype machine game will always make you lose a majority of the player because those players are only playing the next "big" thing but still never realize the hamster wheel they are on

Make a western 2b and let them fuck her in game

This is actually a 2 step process:
1) do not cater to streamers, do not use streamers to advertise your game.
2) do not try to appeal to everyone

Physiology is the same (starter cells; mathematical propagation; systems).

Science defined fun as far back as 1985.

It shouldn't do anything, because you cannot actually make a game which appeals to everybody. You're just going to end up with shallow trash that nobody will love.

what the fuck are these posts? reads like some kind of think tank doing paid market research for AAA companies

fuck off. trying to make games that appeal to everyone is the definition of soulless.

look at Genshin and do the same

It is impossible for a good MMO to exist in the current day.
Game budgets have ballooned so much the game has to be a huge hit to be profitable and stay online.
Players have become too autistic and will min max everything so if you could have 10 skill trees but if one DPS tree does more damage than another then nobody will ever pick the lower one no matter how fun it might be to play.
The internet ruined every sense of adventure and discovery there is to these games and players are too weak minded to restrict themselves from using it. Nobody will go out into the world to search for a good gathering spot, they just google an optimal route that gives them the most return.

Make an MMO. Make it not suck. It doesn't have to be a great game, it just has to be a not terrible game. That's all you need to be successful. Look at fucking FFXIV, the game is a terribly coded WoW clone for consoles but it has achieved massive success in the last few years simply because every other MMO currently on the market is even worse.

That elf appeals to me, that's for sure

>Players have become too autistic and will min max everything so if you could have 10 skill trees but if one DPS tree does more damage than another then nobody will ever pick the lower one no matter how fun it might be to play.
you solve that with rock paper scissor balancing
there is no reason to make 1v1 in mmos fair

It's insane how people still play Lost Ark.

Oh wait, it's all bots.

>Game budgets
A few developers is enough for producing a couple of characters, items, areas, and activities per day, having enough content in 1 month.

not me, look at those pitiful ears, might as well call it a human

Everybody likes variety and depth.

Wow New World is only at 9k active users? Why haven't they shut it down yet then? Other mmos like Bless gave up with more.

/thread
mass appeal is generic and boring.
no one will want to look at your game after the inital glance

Online wikis ruin the adventure spirit of MMOs as well as no way to really develop faction identity
WoW had several RTS games for you to get a feel for how faction should be and should want. You weren't picking a side just because of looks but mentality. Players even uninterested in role play would at some level get it. Hard to replicate that without the factions being in extreme opposition to the point of caricature out the gate.

The wiki problem I don't know how to solve. It kills adventuring and makes the game into a checklist and kills build variety. It also ruins boss patterns because now unless you're doing it with friends for the first time you want to watch a raid first to learn your role in it. All of this diversity removed so as not to let your team down.

The only thing I could think to do is not separate PvP and PvP to encourage a build good at both just in case. Now there's a lot more that you can potentially face so builds will be less keyhole to task at hand. I don't think you can solve people just looking up where gear and what bosses do.
I would love an MMO where legendary items were literally one of a kind so having a whatever sword actually meant something and made your character important on a meta sense but I feel like that'd all just end up consolidated in one guild in the long run
