Why do the levels have to be familiar though, instead of just simple and easy to grasp? Nobody loses their minds when the first level in every Mario game doesn't reference 1-1. Even if you want them to be familiar you can still at least put in the bare minimum effort of changing the aesthetic a LITTLE bit, like Emerald Hill Zone did.
