so a linear game
The only thing that'd remain is Gran Soren
But then you'd have world of warcraft
but how im going to get to that mounitain i see over there if i cant walk like a retard for 20 minutes
What if you added more empty space what it if it took literal days to get between notable landmarks
The mountain comes to YOU!
Well it's a good thing that all roads lead there, then.
>Any Forums hates empty open worlds
Ok so what would you do to improve on it instead of discarding the idea entirely. Humanity doesn't just toss things out it brainstorms and actually uses intelligent methods to fix it.
>Any Forums just says it bad, spams memes, buzzwords and wojaks
I swear to Christ you subhumans make million year old chimps look like a space faring empire.
cringe thread
>game goes from 100 hours to 1 hour
it's shit
How come theres so many nooks and crannies to explore in Elden Ring
But even in Lyndell youll find butterflies or a mushroom as an item on a dead body?
Scale down your perlin noise region if you can't think of shit to fill it up with.
Insomniac managed to have open worlds you can run around and do shit in, but only ever had issues with map size bloat in their SIXTH FUCKING OPEN WORLD GAME.
add npcs to the empty space, make the game have side quests that do t completely derail off the story, but arent required and benefit you in some way
I call it "Banjo-Kazooie".
People are going to hate me for saying this but designers should follow Bethesda's example of using empty space as an excuse for unique random encounters
>Ok so what would you do to improve on it
discard the idea entirely
>instead of discarding the idea entirely
get rid of GUI based fast travel. opening a menu and fast traveling is the opposite of immersion. build the world with a sense of purpose. I don't need a landmark every 10 fucking meters, especially in areas that should be empty. at the same time, I don't want to walk 60km from one landmark to the next. fill the empty space intelligently and utilize empty space to create immersion. easier said than done but these faggot open world designers are getting paid enough to think critically.
but I'd rather just go back to linear design
skyrim wouldn't exist. And that's a good thing.
So Bully
Right is literally Dragons Dogma map
...
A link to the past has perfect open world.
It can still be open-world, just without senseless padding to give AAA titles an excuse to charge $60. Everyone liked the Plateau in BotW, and it's only like 5% of the map. Too much nothing outside of it. Only about 20% of this entire map has good content.
