Beign fair, botw archieved both things on it's own right.
It's a AAA game that spend more than half it's entire dev time experimenting and actually trying to find itself and what it means to be an exploration game, and as a result it was both a new take on open world that changed a lot people's and company's perspective towards that sytle of vidoegame, while also not having time to fill the world with enough content, feeling rushed and unfinished.
You can praise the game for a lot of things and complain for many others, and all of them would be right. The problem discussing it arises because everyone places values on different things so depending on what you focus it can be one of the ebst games ever or one of the worst ones.
In a sense, it feels like the perception of games like minecraft or Kenshi to me. For some people, it jsut clicks and it's the best thing ever, for others unable to decide their own goals, it's a horrible, extremely boring experience that feels like a chore.

It's a game that cannot be discussed if you're not willing to look at the big picture, otherwise the focus differs so much from individual to individual that it almsot feel like you're discussing different games.

Wii U is a lot stronger than the Switch in "raw performance" when the Switch is clocked for handheld mode. They're comparable when the Switch is docked, with the Switch edging out the Wii U not because it has more raw horsepower but because it has more modern architecture with more efficient techniques. Considering the Wii U is over 5 years older, this is testament to how awful the Switch is in terms of specs

Given how Oddissey runs and looks, I'd say the issue is the good old "having to optimize a game for more than one system".
Making something for a single piece of hardware lets you do wonders, even for underpowered machines.

Not really. Switch is portable console that released in the same gen as the WiiU, a dedicated home console, and Switch is more powerful than it. This is a testament to how awful WiiU is in terms of specs
