Was the Zero series good?

I've played most of the Zero games and never a single Megaman game. What did I miss out on?

>Good gameplay
>Rich story
>Amazing OST for a GBA
>Hard as balls to keep casuals out
Overall really good tho, also:
Z3 > Z4 > Z2 > Z1

only 3.
The rest sucked imo

It's unironically the most consistently good Mega Man series, mostly thanks to the fact that it had the good grace to end itself before it could produce a bad game.

>2 solid games
>One borderline challenging kino
>weakest point was the first which was only easy
yes, good.

It was the best series in the entire Megaman franchise.

I've only played Zero 1 and it's bizarre. The game starts and is stupidly hard. Probably harder than any Megaman game. Plus you have this dumb gimmick of only being able to attempt levels once. You can back out, but that checks the stage as failed and the game continues. You can literally just fail your way through the game, but then possible get into a soft locked state.

So it's hard, but then you can do this absurdly long grind to unlock and use the fairies, a pretty big gimmick of the game hidden behind this long grind, and once you take the time to use them, the game becomes trivial. The balancing of the difficulty is really lousy.

Everything else is sick though.

the first one is a bit rough around the edges. The other three are more polished and they get rid of the moveset level grinding after 2. 2 is my favorite regardless of that dumbass feature though.

Fuck it, don't care.

They're great games but the artstyle of them is not great. It's not as bad ingame but still.
Z1 is interesting because it almost feels like an indie game, I actually quite like it even with its flaws since it's the most consistently difficult entry. Z2's difficulty is good but Z3 and Z4 are disappointingly easy.

huh I always liked the art style. Agree on Z3 being too easy, Z4 was challenging enough for me though. Z2 is the hardest I think though I remember Z1 also being tough.

I hated the artstyle at first and found it stupid but in time it grew on me and now I consider it the best of the entire MM franchise.

What did you grow to like about it? I don't despise it, but I feel like it just doesn't really fit the series or the series' general tone.

Not as good as Battle Network

Mostly I found the boss designs great. Also Dr. Weil looks the most menacing of all MM villains.

The mavericks are fine, but everyone looks like they're ten years old.

hmm maybe a little bit. Gotta remember the artist makes mech and loli porn so those influences show inevitably. But damn does he make good robotic looking stuff.

I have always adored the art style. When it came out i was a little sperg on all of the megaman fansites and forums collecting sprite sheets and custom sprite sheets and everything.

I love it. After replaying it recently I have no fucking idea how i managed to beat all the zero games as a kid.

I have this hard copy, my biggest artbook flex

They reprinted the artbook a few years back. Grabbed it and all the others.
