Got a Quest 2 yesterday with a £300 voucher from work.
I played with it a bit, sideloaded Arizona Sunshine and a few other games, it seems pretty really promising for the future of VR, but as of right now its an expensive tech demo. Before I return it and get clothes instead is there anything else I should do?
Play Alyx, and use that money for meth instead for retrospecting.

Alyx is a must-try, but overall if you don't enjoy a bit of experimental/jank vidya, you might not like it. It's not AAA fiesta, VR is absolute wild west, until recently devs couldn't even agree on a control scheme
Still, try alyx. Many great games (Into the Radius, B&S, Boneworks) come with jank, but Alyx is this one game that hits the spot, it's polished, it's developed, with minor adjustments it would be a great flatscreen title, while it also takes advantage of VR as a medium in many interesting ways. If you want something that isn't a tech demo, Alyx is the game to play.

watch 3D movies on it watch 360 Stereo videos of cool stuff and the ISS documentary space is real youtube.com/watch?v=49EnpiYtd8M

Do I have to have played the other half life games or know what they are about to be able to play Alyx?
Levi Ward
thats because Arizona Sunshine sucks ass and is an outdated tech demo. Get a better game like Pavlov, Alyx, Boneworks, anything fucking top 10
Carson Martin
You don't need to play previous games to enjoy the game, but you probably won't understand the ending or overall setting at all. Guns are shooting and enemies are dying regardless of your lore knowledge
how the hell did you got to miss half-life series is beyond me
well Half Life is pretty much PC only, its like saying "how have you never played a Zelda game" if you never had any Nintendo console.
Jack Jones
Do those games still hold up pretty well? Maybe I need to play them soon
Oliver Phillips
Return it and get a steamdeck instead.

You should keep in and use it exclusively for watching youtube videos on bed, like I do. It is absolutely worth it for that alone.

Pretty sure they do, relatively dynamic shooting never gets old and HL/HL2 didn't have any special quirky mechanics that would get old with time (like covers or something). Then again, I might be biased as I played it for the first time years ago. I'm pretty sure you should give it a shot - in the end there's only one way to find out, and those games are universally regarded as huge classics for a good reason.

yes, I'm a HL2 fanboy, but most people prefer HL1, they're both great in different ways, I know Hl1 dominated the multiplayer scene, and thats a fact.
HL1 was groundbreaking at the time for "one level game", going from the start to finish in one base, as well as scripted enemy actions and an overall great setting (not to mention great enemy A.I). Today some parts will be a bit of a slog, but there are some great events to see still. There are 2 expansion packs
HL2 was out of this world graphics and physics at the changed, it changed how games interacted with the environment. Many say the story and gameplay isn't as good, but I've played through HL2 far more times than HL1. Again if you are not too harsh on it, a lot of still stand up and looks better than modern games in some situations. There are 2 extra expansions (as episodes), you can guess very well why there isn't a 3 if you know your memes

tried this, its worse than a laptop in every way

you know user, there are other kinds of videos you can watch in bed, with the advantage of VR

i like my quest 2 a lot and i consider it worth getting if you have money to burn, but i can't exactly call it a MUST HAVE. it's nice. it's fun. few devs have invested in it so far sadly

for me, its finding the right games and not being so judgement that most experiences are not AAA. yes, there's a lot of crap out there, like every gaming device, its the special experiences you need to find that make VR magical.
For me, I enjoy the big titles like Alyx, Boneworks, Walking Dead. But the real magic were VR mods of official games like Minecraft, Elite Dangerous and Subnautica.

Thanks, I’m gonna buy the 1st one on Steam and see if I like it
Jeremiah Barnes
can it play 4k,5k,6k content without looking like shit?
Mason Sullivan
Is it at least worth it for porn?
Noah Bell
VR porn is really cool

play beat saber with custom songs, one of the most fun things I've done in years and I'm 30+

I have an Index, not a Quest, so it really depends if you can find a decent HD video than the VR device itself
Ryan Perez
it won't be amazing, it will be blurry. Because it needs to be 16k in order to fully utilize potential resolution, proper VR-compatible videos and devices capable of 16k are still 5-8 years away

If I’m playing something like Koikatsu on it can I just use my left hand for controlling everything? Trying to figure out how fapping works with this

What I would think would the impression of some going back, and trying to be as objective as I can, the first one is largely a pioneer of story telling. It isn't hugely remarkable, the weapon choices aren't as interesting as you would hope, and the game has a few gimmick weapons that serve really specific purposes that can be done by the work horse weapons. I would suggest Black Mesa over half life for new players, but I prefer half life original over Black Mesa (if that makes any sense)
Half- life 2 is, to be completely fair, a fine feeling shooter but it is, by in large, a tech demo of the source engines capabilities. You will do way to nany physic puzzles, which at the time were really cool, but now are boring and uninteresting. The combat feels really good though, and some of the gimmick sections are just plain fun.
The episodes, 1 and 2, are alot like 2 but each showcasing new features. For episode 1, the improved follower AI, and episode 2 the Improved enemy AI. Still alot of physics puzzles, extremely gimmicky games, but I go back to the combat being good.
Alyx is, similarly, a tech demo. I think as time passes and VR games adopt the lessons learned from alyx, it will be quint. It will have a place in the niche genre, but it will be fairly forgettable to people that didn't experience it when it was the cutting edge of technology, like half Life is today.
Sure hook it up to a PC and you get pretty good quality. bought a quest 2 myself last year and its good for what it is but you do still need a good PC to really enjoy it fully. also yes RE4VR is a ton of fun but lacks some finer details. H3VR is amazing if you like shooting games though

consider the following: 4k in a window in VR looks decent, 4k stretched 360 degrees around you not so much. 8k 30fps in a window works with some limitations and there's nothing better than that and it still isn't good enough.
