Are these worth playing for the story?

yes for 1. Somewhat for 2 if you can stand love stories.

I miss fatlus memes.

I actually stopped playing this because of the constant grinding
made me sick

I really like the aesthetics of disgaea and I like grid based tactics games so I was sure I'd love this game when I first tried it. But for some reason I didn't enjoy disgaea 1. First time I played it I did a bit of item world and felt way too strong for the main story so I lost interest and stopped playing. Several years later I tried again and did no grinding at all and I made it through the main story, but it never really clicked with me and it felt like I was forcing myself through the fights rather than wanting to play more. It feels like I'm missing some key element but someday it will all come together and I'll start loving the series. So I have disgaea 3&4 ready to play but still haven't touched them.

To be fair you can beat any Disgaea's story mode without grinding

disgaea 1 soul nomad and maybe phantom brave are the only nis games I would say are worth playing for the story even if they tend to have pretty charming characters in all of them

I want to grind with etna

the thumbnail scared me I thought that it was that tattoo

Despite all the memes about grinding for me I always say disgaea not as the grinding rpg but as the cheating one. It's the most extreme version of what you find in most jrpgs where you can just grind and faceroll the game but if you come up with some clever stuff you can get through a lot faster.

In disgaea for example, if there's a big motherfucker blocking you from doing the next story level you CAN just powerlevel to insanity to kill him in a single hit, but it's a lot quicker to just do cheeky stuff like constantly deploy sacrificial characters to lift the boss up so they don't get any turns besides taking out whoever keeps lifting them while you take advantage of the combo system to have several people cast attack up buffs on your one moderately strong guy & the big motherfucker so that you get huge attack boosts (that B.M doesn't get to use because you're stealing his turns) while you get a crazy multiplier that makes up for your otherwise way worse stats from the whole combo to take them out in a few turns

On the surface level the strategy in these games is pretty limited compared to games like FFT where you have elaborate skill systems, but instead it's all about taking advantage of a bunch of exploits and poorly explained mechanics surrounding the othewise basic combat to get through situations on paper you otherwise shouldn't or just make the grindan game a lot more convenient

Disgaea Skateboarding spinoff.

All you do is grind on rails.

for me its passing assembly bills by just throwing all the guys who voted for me onto the guys who voted no

>$20 for d4c
ehhhh

>but as the cheating one
I absolutely agree with this sentiment, it's like a puzzle game within a SRPG with the geo block shenanigans in the later games and throwing/combo exploitation
Plus, there's many ways to "grind" aside from brute force leveling up your characters, it's all pretty in-depth actually

To add to this, the amount of "grinding" is stupidly small. Any specialists (extra weapon stats) you can pull out of your existing weapon and transfer them to your new weapon, completely for free. No limits. Can move them as much or as little as you want. Like people keep saying it a grindy game which it kinda is but it also respect your time and ask you to grind only once. None of that MMO "time to completely rebuild my weapon because it a tier higher and will give me +5% extra attack power once done" bullshit. Whatever you do on Disgaea sticks, it permanent. Only setbacks can only happen if you go full retard and sell your stat stick with all of your specialists to a npc and EVEN THEN the game will give you a chance to buy it back. The game is extremely kind about it grinding. If you like MMOs then quit that trash and unironically just play Disgaea instead.

Demonic Deeds Done Dirt Cheap?

Which was worst Disgaea story?

hey at least they patched the PC version so no features are missing
that being said it's weird to have it so expensive for a decade old game, considering how discounted 1, 2 and 5 are.
