Why did these games kill Pokémania?

Why did these games kill Pokémania?

Ruby and Sapphire literally and explicitly confirmed that pokemon was going to survive after pokemania and that it wasn't just a fad

Not backwards compatible and Tajiri left. Everything else is secondary.

They didn't. An mania, by definition, will burn out on its own. By the end of Gen 2 the mania was dying down, and not because of Gen 2 either. Gold and Silver were very well received and became THE game to play on the playground. It's just, toys get old and eventually you move on to something else.

There were features scaled back from what I remember it was a disappointment

Gen 3 was when GF realized that they didn't have to keep making improvements and original content for their games to sell. They could just rehash the same shit over and over and over again and keep getting rewarded for it

This, Spongebob and Family Guy became the faces of 2000s pop culture while Pokemon was still around, but the public media outgrew it.

This was my first Pokemon game when I was 7; my sister got both Ruby and Sapphire and she gave me Ruby on my birthday with a Treecko plush since she wasn't playing it.

they didn't. crystal, the anime, the movies, and the merchandise had already tanked before ruby/sapphire was even announced.

you weren’t even alive when this shit came out zoomie. my friends and I all played this shit in grade school from gen 1 up until gen 3 and the gen 1 remakes. “pokemania was a thing throughout gen 3 and hit a barrier at gen 4. now the series survives because of 30 year old nu males who will buy fecal matter that is Pokémon brand.

>my sister got both Ruby and Sapphire and she gave me Ruby on my birthday with a Treecko plush since she wasn't playing it.
that is really cute user

everyone had this game. in fact for most of the normies I talk to this is the last pokemon game they owned myself included

How did these games revived Pokémania?

I was getting a ridiculous amount of street passes between classes because of this game coming out.

Everyone complains about not being compatible with gen 1 and 2 but honestly when XY came out and they were isolated from the series for a few months before bank released it made me really realize that long running games really need a hard reset once in a while. It's so much more fun having to start fresh with everyone than it is to just autistically try to preserve everything you've built up like it's a crumbling sandcastle at a beach or something.

It's also a good reminder that it's just a fucking videogame that you shouldn't take so seriously.

thats not black and white

It was already slowing down after the Johto anime started.

>how did the generation that arguably made pokemon more popular than ever kill it

By having practically every fucking pokemon.

GBA/GCN flopped compared to Game Boy/N64 and DS/Wii.

>Spongebob and Family Guy became the faces of 2000s pop culture
SpongeBob I'll give you but I can think of a 1000 things that were more popular than Family Guy in the early 2000s.

They were on the new gameboy console.

Gave up on the story retardation of V in favor of tons of multiplayer features.
No more fucking ice cream Pokemon.

It was around the generation shift. The zoomers today look back on gen 4 as the peak of Pokemon.

Has there ever been a piece of ficton to explode at the same level pokemon did? LOTR comes to mind but it still feels under pokemon in terms of branching out into basically every market so successfully that people still play shit like the pokemon card game today.

Those two are literally the worst Pokemon games.
After that I have never given a single penny to GF. I stopped buying the TCG too.
Fuck you Gamefreak.

Isn't it sad Pokemon peaked in quality when it was at it's dark ages in popularity? Ever since GO it's been only going up but the games keep getting worse.

It came at the right time for hardcore Gen 1 nostalgia, the marketing for Pokémon but 3D also greatly helped to claim it was a milestone for the franchise.

Scrubs couldnt handle the trumpets.

>previous games were GOAT
>Pokemon but 3D
>anime where Ash does relatively well
The games themselves were bad but I can see why people bought into the hype again 10 years ago.

>>>>>>>>>>>>
Saved it with soul
Get better bait

Pokemania ended on its own, gen 3 just happened to be the next games.

Star Wars and Star Trek.

>he says this praising the gen with the keychain pokemon

Zoomers opinions dont count, for anything.

It's the 2nd worst selling mainline game

My point is, alot of people also owned Diamond and Pearl but not the same people who owned RBY, GSC, and RSE.

Gen 5 was like them trying to do a soft reboot of pokemon. You can see it in the game, but you can see it even harder in the anime where ash was incompetent in every way like how he was in the gen 1 anime.
Then the gen 6 anime came out and it was like he was a completely different character.
