We need more games with mother-daughter interactions

Genuine question, why did Ultra Sun and Moon try to walk back Lusamine as an awful parent?

I feel like you shouldn't do it at all then? It's a bit of a shame because Lusamine was a compelling villain when she has these personal family issues. Not 10/10 god tier writing or anything, but way more interesting than your usual pokemon villains.

compelling? yes. evil? yes.

but that sort of evil is far too real for a kids game. a mafia boss, eco terrorists, omnicidal maniacs. these are fine since its very unlikely to happen to kids in real life. but a mother who controls, then ignores, and then tells her children she doesn't love them while she is obsessed with her pursuit of X? thats far too real and too easy to connect to their real life. its not the sort of villain you have in kids media. kids in a bad place may connect those particular dots, see their mother getting angry about failing at work and make that connection.

i do agree Lusamine in Ultra is a boring, watered down version, but it was a necessary change

Probably due to the reaction to the character. I think they didn't expect for Lusamine to be as popular as she became. They also didn't expect the negative backlash from the scene with the Male MC and Lillie on the island which is why they also retconned that entire scene.

Naw, I'm not talking about mature themes. I'm talking about all of the hand holding, the forced tutorials, the aversion to deeper mechanics so "use the super effective type" works 99% of the time. I'm not saying I want some hardcore JRPG or anything but I do want something than requires more thought than only using type advantages
