Start by moving one of your knights out first, and then just play reactionary to everything your opponent does with no real plan in mind. I have won roughly 70-75% of the chess matches I've participated in with this strategy, it will probably work for you too.

since this is a video game board, 1700 is like reaching platinum in ranked in competitive a game, its really not hard and you don't even need to put in any real effort to learn, you can just grind and learn the game through play, obviously if u do try to learn & understand outside of the game you will advance faster
you could easily go from literally never played chess to 1700 in a month or two
