for what purpose? Why would I use this shit over steam?

So don't use Galaxy then?
gog is not drm free. there's licenses and all that shit which are digital rights management.
>introduce a feature
>just don't use it bro
Because you use it only if you want, moron.
If you dont want to use it, just download the packed game and store it wherever you want and play it whenever you feel like it.
Why are you complaining about an optional feature you don't have to use? You sound like a fucking retard.
i'm so mad about this, literally seething rn
i just dropped GOG and went back to steam. better user experience in every single way. if i ever wanted to "share" a game with a friend i'd just do it through steam or he can pirate it from gog games com
How does it make sense for a company to create something for no one to use it?
Obviously they want the playerbase to use galaxy, the question is why would they do that if they advertise themselves at DRM free? Calm your tits
Some people find one-click installation and cloud saves convenient I suppose. It's not a bad thing as long as it's completely optional which Galaxy is not.
unironically achievements
must get my dopamine boost by seeing numbers go up
It's more for lazy fucking developers that won't develop a proper lan/tcp multiplayer or cheevos. But otherwise I agree that Galaxy is pointless which is why I don't use it nor do you have too.
How is it not optional?
He probably means the multiplayer component for some games in which he is completely right but as far as single-player content goes, Galaxy is optional.
game launchers are not DRM
Well, you literally can. It's an optional thing. You can still download the standalone installers.
>How does it make sense for a company to create something for no one to use it?
Because people that use it, use it. For convenience and because they wanted a one-click "steam-like" program. How is this difficult to understand?
this but unironically
It depends. For the most part yes but games that require the launcher in some way is DRM. Steam is not DRM but Steamworks is.
If they want a steam-like why wouldn't they stick with steam
Mostly the multiplayer aspect, see

AVP Classic 2000 deserves a special mention because the original game has LAN + Direct IP connection based multiplayer, but it was stripped from the GOG release for the sake of Galaxy-only multiplayer.
There are also other downsides to offline installers, such as getting patches with a delay, sometimes by days, but that's not an issue if you just buy actually finished games from GOG.
GOG made it to have a platform for distributing patches for modern games. Nothing nefarious about it.
