Started the series with Persona 5 (I know what I am), and have been slowly working my way backwards. Persona 4 Golden was nothing short of a delight. Was going to wait for Persona 3 to port, and lo and behold we're getting P3P. But I read that P3P is the inferior version, so I'm emulating P3FES instead.
What am I in for? I'm already seeing a lot of (I guess QOL) features missing. Not a deal breaker, but I have my limits.
If you started with 5 you should have played 3 first after. You'll be disappointed no matter which version you play now.

That's basically been my fear. The OST is keeping me invested, so far, at least.

>What am I in for? Probably the best of the 3 modern ones story and atmosphere-wise. Unfortunately probably the weakest of the 3 gameplay-wise, but that's relatively speaking; if you liked the rest of the series and jrpgs in general you'll like it. Use tactics and scan every enemy so your party members know what to do. The "Marin Karin" memes are from people who didn't do this.
Bona fide Japanese jank. Just accept it. Writing wise it's my favorite Persona because the juxtaposition between edgy aesthetic and optimist storyline makes it just much more powerful, the contrast is strong.

The best story of the three. The three best girls of the series: Mitsuru, Elizabeth and Aigis
Jason Morgan
Man, you must need your vision checked, because I don't see best girl in that list.
Scanning affects what attacks your teammates use? That's pretty cool. More unpredictable than controlling them yourself, but more interesting to be sure.
Mitsuru didn't have to finish her first sentence for me to confirm that.
When it first came out, I ignored it because I was in my Xbox is Best Box phase and the idea of high schoolers shooting themselves in the head to summon demons sounded too edgy even for me.

>no fashion sense >can't cook >zero self confidence
It does, and what's more, while it only tells you elemental affinities, it tells your teammates what status effects an enemy is weak to.
>>no fashion sense This is good, fuck fashion trends. >>zero self confidence give her self-confidence >>can't cook This is the only stickler. Too bad Shinji gets laid out before he can fully teach her the art, and the male PC would fucking set the oven on fire trying to bake anything. also damn Shinji's slink in general was the highlight pf P3P.
A solid game with a lot more jank than the newer ones, but also absolutely amazing atmosphere and an aesthetic that no other game really has youtu.be/ZzRqtW1C0Zo

>But I read that P3P is the inferior version You've been deceived user. It is the superior version. Everything gameplay and pacing wise about it is improved, specially the combat. The only thing its missing from FES is the added post game epilogue. And honestly, it's awful, both gameplay wise and story wise. Destroys the actual ending of the game. You're at the very least just better off watching it on youtube if you're really curious about the story

The sheer fact you couldn’t befriend death boy was a crime. You can hang out with losers like MUH KNEE, MUH HOT TEACHER, and MUH FAT, but not have a character that you’re actually supposed to bond with the point that killing him is supposed to be an inner conflict.
So glad they rectified that with Adachi.
Sebastian Jenkins
Least enjoyable cast, a darker and more serious story, P4 dungeons but even worse, decent social links, banger OST, and some of the best moments in the series. I'm conflicted on 3 but it's hard not to love, if you enjoyed 5 and 4 you'll like 3
>superior version >no anime cutscenes >no 3D models >so almost everything is just delivered in VN form
Parker Smith
>Least enjoyable cast Please elaborate on this pleb opinion
Andrew Taylor
>What am I in for? Party members you have to babysit
Leo Hughes
>P4 dungeons but worse Wrong. Tartarus wasn’t as bad because you have about the same amount of floors, but they’re bigger in 4. Plus that Marie dungeon in P4G, while easy, was horrible.
Michael Powell
Play FES for the best experience and The Answer, OP. These other guys are fags who don't like videogames, ignore them.
Grayson Flores
If you want to 100% the game on your first play through you HAVE to follow a guide for it. The schedule is very rigid so you can get the personality stats up by certain dates to start social links in time.
Sebastian Hall
Yukari's a bitch, Fuuka is the definition of forgettable, Shinji is non-existant, Ken is a brat, Aigis is as much a door as door-kun. Rest is good lmao
Persona 3 FES is everything I fucking hate about this place. It's the most overrated game that gets sucked off nonstop by people here.
The combat is shit, dungeons are shit, characters are shit, story is shit. It has every fucking problem 4 and 5 have with a bunch of other baggage that makes it torture to get through.
Just wait for P3P if you have to.
Not that guy, but every fucking character in P3 was two-dimensional chuunishit. I'm so fucking sick of P3shitters pretending their faggot weeb game is somehow more "complex" than the others because the tone is a bit darker.
I fucking hate you all so fucking much. I want to kill every fucking one of you fucking disgusting fucking people. Die in fire.
Nathan Nelson
>Least enjoyable cast
Man what a shit take.
Lincoln Long
He’s 100% correct though, only party member worth remembering is Junpei.
