Carrey felt way too memey, which I just chalked up to him being insane and obsessive over Sonic, but I don't think he has a serious normal line that isn't delivered like a joke/reference. Idris also sounds way too old to Knuckles and hams up the dummy aspect of his persona way too much. It's like he becomes more retarded as the movie goes on.
The Siberia tavern scene and the Super Sonic bits were easily the best parts.
We won't mention that bit in the middle that went on for way too long with 0 Sonic characters present for all of 14 minutes.

other than the typical hollywood superiority complex, i don't understand why they gave them these "realistic" redesigns in the first place. the whole shtick here is that they got isekaied from mobius to earth. wouldn't it make more sense for them to look exactly the same as they do in the video games since they're supposed to be fish out of water in this setting? think roger rabbit, but in cgi.

I still think a fan edit could help here a lot. Firstly, roll the scene where Tom calls Sonic to check up on him with the scene where he accidently switches rings with the girl so we can cut the scene later on. Then cut out the whole ridiculous spy in love subplot entirely from the film.

The only reason anybody cares about Sonic Origins and doesn't call it a yet another collection of ROMs slapped into an emulator is because of the developer connection with the Sonic mobile ports and how they are actually good.

these are generic family-friendly hollywood shlock dressed up in the sonic IP. the closest comparison in the games is probably the sonic colors "baldy mcnosehair" garbage we've been subjected to over the past 12 years. what sonic fans want is a return to maekawa and sonic x kino.

There is also a deleted scene between Tom and his wife before they go to Hawaii that isn't actually bad where they talk about trusting Sonic to be alone in the house and could be restored. Really, Sonic's immediate "family" works fine as characters since they mostly just talk about their "son" Sonic. They matter whether you like the idea of their existence or not.
The issue here is the focus on the fat sister and her being used as "comedy relief" in a film where everyone else is already making jokes. She wasn't needed and she is a disgusting fatty.
Cartoons in burgerland are still seen as for kids. It was never gonna be a pure animation film so live action was the best way outside of outsourced Korean sonics

Even Mobius was reworked to fit a live-action setting. It's about making everything feel real, Sonic and co. included. Roger Rabbit felt like he was there, but it was obvious he wasn't "real" like Eddie was.
Keep in mind that real =/= realistic like with the first design, but given that Sonic's world is meant to coexist with Earth in the movieverse effectively making him an alien, he has to feel like a tangible living creature and not a furry CGI model.
