I think the best possible outcome would've been Travis dying in NMH1, yes. I think that makes a much better self contained story and better fits the themes of the game.

But in NMH1 he became #1 thus achieved his dream of banging Sylvia -- a reward for all that mundane wagieing as a loser. There was no reason for 2, which now made him a badass with barrage of fangirls ie not travis
