Well I like that it took so long although at the same time it would take nothing less that wiping everyone's memory to make him "good." I mean Vegeta's formative years were spent with the Saiyans. And then his teenage and adult years were spent as Frieza's slave. There's a really good line that he had with Shin that I think sums up Vegeta in Z

There was no way Vegeta wasn't going to backslide once or twice. You can't erase all that shit just by fucking Bulma, it took time and sustained peace before he could let go of the Saiyan Empire

Yeah, that's all true. It would likely be the same for any of the other remaining Saiyans had they survived as well. Vegeta took as long as he did because the mere idea of NOT being an evil dick was completely foreign to him.
