Current day developers have a large if not majority of the team that probably hated or is at best indifferent to High School, and they can't really pretend for the sake of a game because media they grew up on already moved from the school setting compared to the past. School in Media consumed by people who are now developers (i.e mostly video games) is mostly an excuse, a means to an end, not something of interest.

Yes, she may be uggo at that point, but girls like that are usually late bloomers when it comes to settling into a look that works for them. She's smart, funny, and isn't a complete psycho like every other girl in the game.
