Are you starting from zero? or do you have any related skills to game making?

Damn, new FE leaks?

starting from 0

Man, that's part of my issue with the idea of getting into making games.
If you've got some ambitious idea for a game, then more than likely unless you're some kind of autistic super genius or insanely motivated you won't be able to carry out the ambitious idea yourself, so you're going to have to put in a shit ton of time making shitty simple games that have already been done before just to get your skills up, OR you have to simplify or abandon your original concept for one more achievable than the elaborate idea you had to start with.

Rpg maker would be the easiest since it came with graphic, sound effects, bgm, parallax, etc. You can learn scripting on the go as you fool around in its engine. People hate rpg maker but, it's not bad for making a simple project or learning direction in game making. There is also wolfRPG which is kinda similar.
Renpy is probably the next easy engine since the script used is simpler and has many guides. You gotta find your resources somewhere else.
For beginners those three are common and have many active groups, so, you can ask around.

MMO is the easiest. Platformers are the hardest. Good luck, user.

If you want to make a game but have no idea what game you want to make, then you have to face a simple truth: you don't want to make game.

You know what, you're right. I don't want to make a game, I just want the game in my head to exist. Those are two different things - I have zero appetite for the actual creative process, I just want the product.

3D, Unreal Engine, shiny RT stuff just say no.
Make a PS1 textures/pixels Unity game instead.
Or a platformer like this. Blue is a goat developer.
