smt has keyframed animations for clothes that are independent from the character model rather than exclysive physics simulations, something that took modern devs YEARS to start doing, and most still don't despite the fact that they'd greatly benefit from doing so looking at you, street fighter
this also has other applications, such as in arcsys games where extensions of clothes and limbs are keyframed in order to be deformed in motion so a 3d model can closely emulate the look and feel of traditional animation
