The only crack protection that kind of works is expensive, whatever it is at the time like Denuvo now, plenty of others before it. The only really important time for something to not be cracked is during launch because its inevitable otherwise. Big studios can pay for something expensive, smaller ones can't.

Software warez scene is still very active, it's just games where there just isn't any competition or reason to even put the sheer amount of effort required. None of the old scene groups are capable of cracking Denuvo, or they would, and most of them are so far up their own ass to even try.
P2P crackers are doing most of the work now on cs.rin making scene groups largely irrelevant.
