A lot of them are, actually. You have a few distinct worlds. For brevity, I'll just use numbers and keep proper nouns to a minimum.
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 11, 12, 13, and 15 are all set in one world, if not on the same continents.
6 and 7 share a continent, as do 9 and 10.
13 also introduces parallel world shit, connecting 13 to the world of 9 and 10 at the least, with a character in 13 being a descendant of the protag from 9.
8, 14, 16 are the only standalones.

1/2/3, 4/5, 6/7, and 9/10 all share at least a few playable characters (11/12/15 are remakes of 1/3/2 respectively). In particular the casts of 1/3 and 9/10 are virtually identical only with a few additional characters added in the sequels.
